Dyson scraps Bristol tech hub plans
Engineering firm Dyson is scrapping its plans for a tech and research hub in Bristol and moving staff to its UK headquarters near Malmesbury.
The firm announced yesterday (Tuesday) that 180 staff would be moved to its Wiltshire campus and that the £100 million tech hub at 1 Georges Square in Finzels Reach – which is owned by the Dyson family – will be rented out.
Bristol staff are currently based at offices near College Green.
The creation of the Bristol tech hub at the former offices of Clarke Willmott, near Bristol Bridge, was announced in May 2023.
The company said the centre (pictured left) would be home to hundreds of software and artificial intelligence engineers.
Dyson said it had chosen Bristol because it was an “international hub for software and digital skills”.
In July last year the firm announced it was cutting 1,000 UK jobs – a quarter of its British workforce.
