Turnover hits £144m at Swindon construction company
Turnover at Swindon-based construction company Beard has exceeded £144 million in the firm’s 125th year.
The family-owned firm reported pre-tax profits of £4.4 million for the period to December 31, 2017 with turnover up 5.6 percent year-on-year from £136.9 million to £144.5 million.
Beard’s current order book stands at £105.6 million.
“2017 was a milestone year for Beard marked by our 125th business anniversary, continued high levels of repeat business and appointments to four major regional construction frameworks,” says Beard chairman, Mark Beard.
“Looking ahead, although the market remains competitive, our strength and capability in delivering complex construction projects and strategic focus on prompt and faultless delivery, is helping us win work, and providing further opportunities to negotiate better contractual terms.
“Our current order book and pipeline are looking good and we expect to see further business growth this year particularly within the education and hotels and leisure sectors as a weaker pound continues to attract overseas students and tourists to the UK.”
Beard’s Swindon office has been involved in a number of prestigious projects in 2017 including the construction of a new £11 million performing arts centre at Wellington College in Crowthorne, Berkshire, a £4.6 million new primary school in Shinfield, near Reading, and an £11 million Queen’s Square Science School at Eton College in Windsor.
Beard also successfully completed a £3.6 million building refurbishment and expansion of Great Hollands Primary School in Bracknell and four projects through the Gloucester County Council framework valued at £2.8 million.
