New College Swindon and Swindon & Wiltshire Institute of Technology launch first trade recruitment event
New College Swindon and the Swindon and Wiltshire Institute of Technology are launching their first Teach Your Trade recruitment event on Wednesday, June 14.
The event seeks to attract plumbers, bricklayers, engineers, carpenters, electricians and automotive mechanics who may be considering switching to a career in teaching.
The event will focus on how those currently working in the trade can inspire the next generation, as well as the benefits associated with a career in teaching.
The College has many current members of staff who previously worked in the trade, including bricklaying lecturer Steve Southern who has a distinguished 50 year association with New College Swindon.
Visitors are invited to attend informal, drop-in sessions between 5.00pm and 6.30pm when they will be able to talk to the teaching team and learn about the opportunities that a teaching career would offer.
Ben Hodder, Assistant Principal for construction trades, engineering and motor vehicle at the Swindon and Wiltshire Institute of Technology, said: “We are delighted to be hosting our first ever trade recruitment event and hope it will be a good opportunity for local people to see our facilities and be inspired to think about a career in teaching.
“For us, it’s all about investment in young people that ultimately benefits the future of the local community.”
