Young men strip to underwear for car handover at Pebley Beach
There was a car handover with a difference at Swindon motor dealer Pebley Beach last week, as a group of young men stripped to their underwear to collect the keys to their new Hyundai i10s.
The drivers are university ambassadors for the underwear firm Oddballs, which produces brightly-coloured, ethically-sourced clothes and accessories whilst raising awareness of testicular cancer.
Each university has an Oddballs ambassador, whose job it is to promote the brand and raise awareness the so-called ‘young man’s disease’ – the most common type of cancer to affect men between the ages of 15 and 49.
Established in 2014, the trading arm of the organisation has produced more than 300 different items of clothing, while the foundation has donated £650,000 to good causes. Two million Check Yourself guides about testicular cancer have been distributed and 100,000 young men have been spoken to in assemblies and talks.
Pebley Beach will supply the charity with 45 Hyundai i10s over the next three years, and the first ten left the showroom on new registration day (Thursday, September 1).
The hatchbacks were wrapped by Swindon-based Smart Designs and are designed to be as eye-catching as the apparel they promote.
The first of the cars was handed over Oddballs university ambassador manager Kieran Kelly by Pebley’s customer services manager Harry Threlfall, who was also persuaded to strip off for the occasion. Harry and Kieran first met at the age of four and went through school together – which made the stunt a little less awkward than it might otherwise have been.
“I don’t remember posing in brightly coloured underwear being part of the job description,” said Harry, “but we’re proud to work with Oddballs and spread awareness about testicular cancer across the country.”
