Opticians Haine & Smith raise more than £150,000 for community groups

Partners at Wiltshire-based opticians Haine & Smith have hit a major milestone in their charitable work, with fundraising efforts leading to more than £150,000 being raised for local community groups across Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire.
Each year the partners of the company donate a percentage of their salary to its Charitable Fund. This money is then distributed to local community groups, sports teams and grassroots organisations located near a practice.

Sue Haine, co-founding partner at Haine & Smith (pictured), said: “We have always enjoyed being involved in the communities surrounding our practices, so in 1995 we established our Charitable Trust.

“Its goal was simple- to invest into the local communities which are home to our patients and employees who support us. We have been delighted to have helped so many local groups, charities and organisations over the years.”

Since the Charitable Trust was created, it has made more than 600 donations to a variety of worthy local causes. These have ranged from sponsoring local festivals to providing equipment for youth groups, schools, hospitals and charities to carry out their vital work.

For many years the Charitable Trust has sponsored the Marlborough Literature Festival helping provide prizes for the LitFest Primary School Children’s Competition.

Genevieve Clarke, chairman of the LitFest Committee said: “On behalf of the LitFest Committee, thank you to you and to Haine and Smith for sponsoring the competition each year – we are hugely grateful for your support.”
