Property agency pledges a donation to charity for every home valuation during 2017

Property sales and lettings agency Ashcox & Stone, has launched a new fundraising commitment in support of the homeless charity, the Swindon Night Shelter.

With a minimum £1,000 fundraising target this year, the agency – based in Swindon’s Old Town – has pledged to donate £20 for every property valuation request – even if the quotation does not result in a sale.

Neil Bainbridge, sales director, said: “Initially this part of our fundraising was going to be for the spring and summer, but now it’s running indefinitely.

“Homelessness is such a far-reaching issue and Swindon Night Shelter puts its heart and soul into it, as well as their time.

“All the team has seen the organisation at work and were inspired by the way they treat each homeless person with respect and dignity.”

The Night Shelter helps people who are homeless, vulnerable and struggling in the area. Volunteers run a night shelter every Friday night from 9pm – 8am at St Mary’s church hall, Cheney Manor Rd, Swindon. Guests are offered a hot meal, a chance to shower, wash clothes and a bed for the night.

Becky Davison and her husband Phil set up The Night Shelter in 2008 and now it works with other organisations across the town to support those without homes. The need for its services is growing. The money raised by Ashcox & Stone will help the charity maintain its facilities and services.

Ashcox & Stone has previously been involved with the Swindon Night Shelter by organising other fundraising events and arranging rental properties for those people ready to leave the streets behind.

“Homelessness”, Neil said, “and that of displacement, is such a far-reaching issue and it’s not good enough to just try and remove people from the streets, we all need to do more than just walk past with our eyes closed.”
