BElectric backs biodiversity bash

Solar energy specialist BElectric UK has been announced as a co-sponsor of this year’s Wiltshire Bee & Honey Day.

The Brinkworth-based company is supporting the free event as part of its commitment to boosting biodiversity.

The Wiltshire Bee & Honey Day is due to take place at Devizes Corn Exchange on Saturday 10 October and runs from 10am-4pm.

Organised by the Wiltshire Beekeepers Association, it attracts hundreds of people and provides local honey, candles and mead, plus children’s activities and public talks.

Jake Garrod, BElectric UK’s head of ground maintenance, is responsible for ensuring the company’s solar farms improve the local ecology and promote biodiversity.

This includes sowing wildflowers, planting trees and restoring hedgerows, and the construction of special habitats for bees, bats and amphibians.

Jake said: “Climate protection and species protection go hand in hand, so we’re delighted to support this year’s Wiltshire Bee & Honey Day.

“It’s a great way to raise awareness of the vital importance of bees to our food crops and ecosystems, and how we can all play a part in safeguarding their future.”

Sophie Butcher is the chair and trustee of the Wiltshire Beekeepers Association.

She said: “We’re grateful to BElectric UK for supporting us and look forward to seeing lots of people at this year’s event.

“It’s a fantastic day out for the whole family, from people who are thinking about taking up beekeeping to those who just want to learn about these fascinating insects.

“And of course we’ll also have plenty of delicious honey and mead from across the county – and honey beer brewed especially for the show by Wadworth!”

Based at Callow Hill in Brinkworth, BElectric employs more than 120 people.

The company is responsible for large-scale solar farms and battery projects, from engineering and construction to ongoing operation and maintenance.
