New head of Malmesbury Town Team appointed
There’s a new face at the helm of business development organisation, Malmesbury Town Team – David Drake, co-director of the high street gallery and art shop Caerbladon.
David (pictured left), a member of the Town Team community interest company since 2021, takes over from Campbell Ritchie. He is enthusiastic about the group’s mission to boost the town’s prosperity and resilience.
“We want the best for the town at every level – a successful town centre and high quality retail, cultural and hospitality offer for visitors and local residents, with increasing footfall and vibrant activity,” said David.
To kickstart these efforts, the Town Team is hosting an informal get together for local businesses at the King’s Arms, in the High Street, on Monday, February 3 at 5pm.
Unlike his predecessor, David is not a Malmesbury town councillor and sees his role as an opportunity for the Town Team to draw on the entrepreneurial flair and creativity that exists in the Malmesbury area.
“We want to explore the collective assets of the town and surrounding area, including the diverse range of small to medium-sized businesses, beyond the retailers and hospitality.
“By working together, we can share knowledge, expertise, and learning opportunities.”
Acknowledging that collaboration is key, David emphasised: “We have plenty of ideas, but we don’t have all the answers. That’s why we need input from others who share a stake in the town’s success. The Town Team aims to act as an enabler or facilitator.”
David is also determined to challenge the negative perceptions of shopping locally.
“The pandemic has reshaped our habits, and shopping online is now the norm, but many small independents are thriving and defying the odds.
“Malmesbury has recently welcomed several new businesses, proving our high street is resilient. And people value friendly and knowledgeable customer service, along with competitive prices.
“Let’s focus on the positives and highlight how Town Team can support this momentum.”
