Lichfields strengthens Thames Valley team with two new planners

Planning and development consultancy Lichfields has appointed two new planners, Mariam Ahmed and Willow Cockerill, to its Thames Valley office.

The appointments reflect the continued growth of the Reading-based team as it celebrates its 10th anniversary year.

Both planners will be working across a range of high-profile projects in the region, adding fresh perspective and enthusiasm to the office’s expanding workload.

Mariam completed a BSc in Human Geography at the University of Reading in 2023 and more recently completed her MSc in Spatial Planning and Development at the University of Reading.

She also has practical experience as a GIS technician, where she applied spatial analysis to land management projects.

Willow joins following completion of her MPlan Urban Studies and Planning degree at the University of Sheffield, accredited by the RTPI and RICS.

She has also undertaken work placements at Hart District Council and Dorset Council, gaining hands-on experience of development management, policy work and renewable energy planning.

Daniel Lampard, head of Lichfields’ Thames Valley office, said: “We’re pleased to welcome Mariam and Willow to the team.

“Their enthusiasm and academic grounding will add real strength to the office as we continue to grow.

“Attracting and nurturing talented graduates is central to our long-term strategy and these appointments build on the success of our recent internship programme, which has already given several students experience of working in planning.”

The Thames Valley office has built a strong reputation for delivering award-winning schemes, including its work with LEGOLAND Windsor Resort and the Berkeley Homes redevelopment of the Horlicks factory in Slough.

Alongside residential and hospitality projects, the team continues to see opportunities emerging in data centres, renewable energy and infrastructure.

Mariam Ahmed said: “I’m excited to join Lichfields at such a dynamic time for the Thames Valley office. The breadth of projects here provides a great opportunity to apply what I’ve learned at university and continue developing my skills.”

The appointments highlight the office’s focus on strengthening its capacity while also supporting early-career professionals to develop within the business.

Willow Cockerill added: “Starting my career at a consultancy with such a strong reputation and track record in the region is a fantastic opportunity. I’m looking forward to getting involved in projects that will have a real impact locally.”
