IT firm recruits first female technician in 20-year history
IT support firm Systemagic has appointed the first female IT technician in its 20-year history.
Emma Rigg previously completed a business administration apprenticeship and worked for the NHS, but is now following her passion for IT.
She has been hired to further improve the industry-leading response and resolution times Systemagic currently provide.
Emma, from Bath, is one of two new faces at the Bradford-on-Avon based business, with Hayley Dixon taking on new role of business and finance administrator.
Hayley, from Chippenham, has over 10 years’ experience in customer facing roles and after running her own cake business she’s now looking for the next challenge. Hayley will be responsible for managing accounts and ensuring efficient operations of the business.
“I’m delighted to welcome Emily and Hayley to Systemagic and start our 20th year of service with two additional roles,” said managing director James Eades.
“Both are already thriving in their new positions and have been warmly welcomed by the rest of the team. Our plan is to grow by another couple of people this year as we continue to welcome many new clients onboard to our services.”
The gender imbalance in the tech industry is well recognised. Earlier this year Swindon-based BCS, the chartered institute for IT, published a report which found 45 percent of women in the industry thought their gender was the main barrier to getting ahead in their career, compared to nine percent of men.
The Inclusivity in the Workplace survey also found that 30 percent of women thought their gender was the biggest barrier to getting that all-important first job in IT.
Nationally, women make up just 17 percent of the sector’s workforce – a proportion unchanged for five years.
