Great West Way shortlisted for tourism marketing award

VisitWiltshire’s Great West Way initiative is in the running to win the Destination Marketing Organisation of Year award at the UKinbound Awards for Excellence 2019.

The Great West Way is the world’s first multi-modal touring route which is located between London and Bristol and joins up many of England’s iconic destinations and attractions.

The A4 goes through Marlborough, Calne, Chippenham and Corsham while railway lines to the north and south take visitors through Swindon or Pewsey and Trowbridge and Bradford on Avon. The Kennet and Avon Canal – the third mode of travel – also goes through Pewsey, Devizes and Bradford on Avon.

VisitWiltshire – the official destination marketing organisation for the county – has been shortlisted for its work on developing the route, as well as leading on a new competitive brand positioning for Salisbury.

The Great West Way is up against initiatives from Aberdeenshire and Kent. The winners will be announced at the Awards for Excellence Gala Dinner in Bristol on Thursday, February 6.

David Andrews, director at VisitWiltshire, said: “VisitWiltshire/Great West Way has had a fantastic year having already received an award for a similar title at the TravelMole Awards in November, Launch Campaign of the Year at the Travolution Awards, as well as being nominated for several other awards.”

Last month, TravelMole named VisitWiltshire’s website the Best UK Tourist Board Website for the second time – the same accolade was won in 2015.

VisitWiltshire saw off competition from Visit Wales and Visit Isle of Wight.

Fiona Errington, marketing manager at VisitWiltshire, said: “We are delighted to win this award and grateful to all those who voted for us.

“We have invested in additional resource this year to ensure that VisitWiltshire’s website is kept up-to-date with the latest information and provides inspiration to those who are visiting our beautiful county.”
