Sir Robert Buckland MP joins Barclays and Doubletree by Hilton Swindon to host business roundtable
Swindon MP Sir Robert Buckland joined business leaders in the town to hear about issues around the economy at a roundtable event organised by Barclays Business in conjunction with the DoubleTree by Hilton.
At the roundtable on Friday, April 29, Sir Robert gave his take on a wide range of issues, including Brexit, Covid-19, and the war in Ukraine.
The politician was introduced by Trevor French, Barclays head of mid-corporate, and thanked by Emma Richards, director of sales at the DoubleTree by Hilton.
Sir Robert who has been the MP for Swindon South since 2010 talked about the need for security and supply chains including energy and food alongside the impact of cost of living facing families and businesses set to continue for some time.
The MP went on to outline the need for businesses to focus on ESG and how their credentials in relation to the environment, social and governance will be vital going forward to remain a successful business.
Speaking after the event, Sir Robert said: “It was incredibly useful to get together with local representatives drawn from a variety of businesses and organisations across Swindon.
“I’m grateful to Barclays and the DoubleTree by Hilton in hosting and facilitating the discussion as it’s more important than ever to keep channels of communication open between the business community and government in these uncertain times.”
Around 30 senior businessmen and women attended the luncheon with the MP answering a number of questions, including Swindon’s bid for the Great British Railways headquarters to be located in the town, to which Sir Robert urged attendees to get on board and show their support.
Trevor said: “This event was a great opportunity to bring together businesses and organisations from the area for a really positive face to face discussion after a two-year break.
“Our customers and clients locally are doing well with a strong desire for growth and despite the times we are currently operating there was a genuine feeling of confidence around the room.”
