BMW unveils 2 Series Coupé and 2 Series Active Tourer
BMW has added two new-look models to its line-up: a sporty coupé and a chunky active tourer.
The new generation of the two-door model is the only vehicle in its segment to offer a six-cylinder in-line engine.
The range opens at £34,980 with the 220i. The diesel-powered 220d is available from £36,900.
And the head-turning 396bhp M240i – which will hit 62 mph in 4.3 seconds and is electronically limited to 155mph – comes in at £45,795.
Each model uses an eight-speed automatic gearbox with Launch Control and Sprint mode functionality.
The Active Tourer, meanwhile, is launched into the MPV market, and so goes up against the small SUVs which are finding favour with drivers. The five-seater comes with a choice of two petrol engines and one diesel, with the range set to expand from summer 2022 with the addition of two plug-in hybrid models.
There’s a choice of Sport, Luxury and M Sport and borrows the iDrive control system from the fully-electric BMW iX and BMW i4.
The new model is larger than its predecessor – by 32mm in length, 24mm in width, and 21mm in height, while load capacity can be expanded from 470 to 1,455 litres (BMW 218d Active Tourer) or from 415 to 1,405 litres (BMW 220i Active Tourer, BMW 223i Active Tourer).
The boot of the plug-in hybrid model holds up to 1,370 litres of cargo. Automatic tailgate operation comes as standard, while the optional Comfort Access (standard for M Sport) adds hands-free opening and closing.
The 220i starts at £30,265, the 223i is available from £32,715, and the 218d starts at £31,820.
