West law firm goes into liquidation as sale falls through

A Bath- and Wiltshire-based law firm has gone into administration after a planned sale fell through at short notice.

BLB Solicitors, which has offices in Bath, Bristol, Bradford-on-Avon, Swindon, Almondsbury and Trowbridge ceased trading today (April 30).

In a letter to clients, the firm said the “anticipated sale of the business” had been “withdrawn at short notice,” and that it was therefore unable to continue trading.

The 40-year-old firm told some clients it would stop acting for them and urged them to appoint new solicitors as soon as possible.

It also said it was trying to manage the transfer of files and documents smoothly, and that any money held in client account would be returned at the earliest opportunity.

A notice on its website gave a contact email for enquiries and said the firm would respond “as soon as we are able”.

The collapse appears to have followed a rapid deterioration in the firm’s position in the run-up to administration.

Reports say there had already been changes in the company’s leadership in recent weeks, and Companies House filings showed multiple director departures before the insolvency notice appeared.

The firm had 85 staff, including 40 lawyers.
