Swindon drugs firm Catalent to expand

Pharmaceutical firm Catalent is planning to expand its Swindon operation.

The company, whose imposing manufacturing plant can be seen from the M4, wants to open a new laboratory on its Blagrove site.

The news was confirmed during a visit by South Swindon MP Heidi Alexander and is expected to see $58 million invested by Catalent’s American parent company.

“Catalent are a big Swindon employer and have big plans and aspirations to expand their local operation further,” she said.

“I will be doing all I can to help them overcome barriers to expanding their activity in Swindon.

“As a global business they have options about where to locate new activity and I’m really keen that we do all that we can to secure further investment for the town.”

Catalent said: “We were delighted to welcome The Rt Hon Heidi Alexander MP, Secretary of State for Transport and Member of Parliament for Swindon South, to our Swindon, UK facility recently.

“The visit spotlighted the vital allergy treatments produced at the site using Catalent’s proprietary Zydis ODT technology.

“During the visit, the Secretary toured our state-of-the-art manufacturing and development spaces and spent time with our dedicated, highly skilled teams who embody our Patient First value in everything they do.

“She also learned more about our commitment to customer service excellence, our support for local employment, and the infrastructure necessary to drive our continued growth and innovation.”

Catalent’s current 250,000-square feet Swindon site is home to the company’s Zydis technology which allows for the manufacture of tablets that dissolve instantly in the mouth without water, and is used in many over-the-counter medicines for conditions such as allergies and diarrhoea.
