Wiltshire manufacturer sets stage for growth with leadership training investment
A decades-old Wiltshire manufacturing business is investing in leadership training to help support its ambitious plans for growth.
Calne-based BIL Group – which has been manufacturing castors, wheels and materials handling equipment for more than 50 years – has been through a management buy-out, and recently taken over a competitor.
With further acquisitions on the horizon, BIL Group’s directors have taken on the training experts at Intelligent Dialogue to support the development of the company’s management team.
“This is the first time we have invested in external training for our staff,” said BIL Group’s managing director Tim Murrow.
“We went through a recent MBO and acquired another business, which has highlighted a need to develop our people. We need to invest in our people who have been with us and supported us and start to bring them on.”
Tim runs BIL Group with fellow directors Chris Davies and James Craner. They have ambitious growth plans, having acquired a competitor based in Altringham, with plans for additional takeovers.
Delivering the training to BIL Group’s managers is Intelligent Dialogue, based in Royal Wootton Bassett, which specialises in designing and delivering transformational training programmes, tailored to individual businesses, and focusing on areas including sales, customer service, and leadership development.
Diane Banister, Intelligent Dialogue’s managing director, is delivering the training to a cohort of eight over a nine-month period.
She said: “All the work we do is tailored to the client. The training is based on our BUILD leadership roadmap model, designed around input from the leaders of the business and the priorities of the team.
“The training has just got underway, and I am really impressed by how open the participants have been, and how seriously they are taking it. It’s great to be working with them.”
Tim added: “We were impressed with what Intelligent Dialogue had to offer and so far everyone has found the training very beneficial.
“We have very loyal and long-serving staff, who have largely been promoted from within. We want to invest in them. We want to enhance their skills set, their knowledge and their abilities, so they have the confidence to deal with situations.”
