Wiltshire energy company says ‘yes’ to Living Wage

Chippenham-based renewable energy company Good Energy has become the latest organisation to be accredited as a Living Wage employer.

The firm, which supplies 100 percent renewable electricity to homes and businesses across the UK, currently employs over 300 people at its offices in Chippenham.

Fixed at £8.25 an hour, the living wage is significantly higher than the national minimum wage of £6.70 and applies to everyone working at Good Energy, regardless of whether they are permanent or temporary employees.

“We’ve signed-up to the Living Wage because we feel it’s the right thing to do,” said Francoise Woodward, director of people and culture at Good Energy.

“If you treat your workforce well, people are more likely to want to come and work for you. And it’s also good for business because more and more people look at how a business treats its employees before deciding if they want to be a customer.”

Chippenham MP Michelle Donelan, who presented Good Energy with their Living Wage certificate during a recent visit to their offices, said:

“As with most things, Good Energy are leading the field. Their commitment to paying the Living Wage to all their staff and contractors is an example to follow. Their commitment to the environment is clear; this shows their promise to providing significant support for those on lower incomes. I encourage all employers to follow Good Energy’s lead”.

Living Wage Foundation director Rhys Moore said: “The best employers are signing up to pay the Living Wage now.”

“It is a robust calculation that reflects the real cost of living, rewarding a hard day’s work with a fair day’s pay.”

Good Energy are currently hiring for a number of full time and part time roles in Chippenham, including customer care advisors and team leaders.
