Excalibur staff help keep Air Ambulance flying
Staff at Swindon-based Excalibur Communications have raised £750 for Wiltshire Air Ambulance through donations at their annual event held at the Cotswold Water Park Hotel.
The staff and their partners were encouraged to dig deep by CEO James Phipps for the charity.
James said: “It’s amazing what the staff at the Air Ambulance do, so many people don’t realise the money it takes to keep the ambulance in the air.
“Our £750 helped to cover the cost of helping to keep it air borne for a day. It’s a majorly important resource to the county and we need to help as much as we can to keep it flying and saving lives.”
The Air Ambulance can reach an incident anywhere in the county within 11 minutes. This is crucial in a life and death situation where the speed of the helicopter and the skill of the crew is vital to the outcome of the patient.
The ‘Golden Hour’ after the incident is the time where it’s imperative that the patient receives treatment to drastically reduce the severity of the outcome.
The Air Ambulance often has to take badly injured patients to Southampton, Bristol and Oxford, all of which can be reached in under 25 minutes´ flying time.
Caroline Corrigan from Wiltshire Air Ambulance said: “It’s great to receive such brilliant donations from staff at local businesses like Excalibur. It means we are doing our job right and flying the flag for raising funds for such an important, life-saving resource.”
