Zurich to host virtual work experience for 250 students

Hundreds of young people from all over the UK will get a taste of life at insurance giant Zurich, when it hosts a virtual work experience week this summer.

The Swindon-based employer is offering placements to 250 16 to 19 year olds who fancy a career in financial services. The tow-day programme takes place on July 17 and 18.

Successful candidates will experience the many roles and business areas on offer at Zurich UK, whilst gaining skills in communications, problem solving, resilience, leadership, and teamwork, as well as hearing directly from industry professionals.

Due to its virtual design, candidates can take part remotely from anywhere in the UK. Virtual work experience – of VWEX – is becoming increasingly popular as a means of offering valuable work experience to young people, improving social mobility, workforce diversity, and creating a fairer recruitment process regardless of location.

“From cost-related barriers to travel challenges, in-person work experience just isn’t possible for some students,” said Michelle Ransome, talent acquisition manager at Zurich UK.

“By offering out virtual work experience a level-playing field is created, allowing students from across the UK a chance experience what life is like at Zurich and what a career in insurance could look like.

“Virtual work experience still allows students a realistic insight into the business and gives them a chance to hone their skills and get them excited about the start of their careers.”
