Double award nominations for fastest-growing specialist security firm SSGC

The UK’s fastest-growing security company, Swindon-based SSGC, has received a double award nomination from the globally-renowned Ex-Forces in Business Awards.

SSGC secured the nomination for Employer of the Year for the second year running, while its brilliant resource manager, James Rose was nominated for Inspiration of the Year.

The awards programme is the world’s largest celebration of ex-military in second careers and recognises the business achievements of ex-military members.

It also celebrates employers who support current and former members of the British Armed Forces.

SSGC, which signed the Armed Forces Covenant (AFC) in April 2020, has gone to incredible lengths to improve the lives of the military community through remobilisation projects around the country.

Today, 50 per cent of its shares are owned by veterans and throughout the life of the business, SSGC has championed several veterans to embrace their skills and embed themselves into business life regardless of race, gender or disability.

As well as its commitment to its own staff, SSGC also supports Mission Motorsport as its chosen charity partner, so far donating more than £80,000 to the organisation which works with wounded, injured or sick (WIS) service leavers and veterans.

David Stubbs, CEO of SSGC and a military veteran himself, said: “We are really humbled to have received the Employer of the Year nomination for the second time from this prestigious platform.

“It really is a testament to all the hard work and dedication we put into ensuring veterans and their families are well-looked after when they return home.”

James Rose is a double-amputee British Army veteran who joined SSGC in 2020 at the height of the pandemic and has quickly made his way up the ranks, now employed as its resource manager.

In 2019, James defied all odds as he became the first double above-knee amputee to make it to the summit of the highest mountain in Africa, Kilimanjaro, completely unaided by prosthetics.

Today, he regularly conquers mountains around the world and has documented his journey in a recently-published book called ‘No Excuses’.

Commenting on his nomination, James said: “It is an honour to be recognised on such a prestigious platform and I cannot thank SSGC enough for all the support they have given me since joining.

“My recovery post-service was not a straight road, but with the support of family, friends and my employer, I have come a long way and am doing everything I can to support others in a similar situation.

“I never knew I would enjoy working so much but jumped at the opportunity to work at SSGC and love the routine of working at the company today.”

The winners of this year’s British Ex-Forces in Business Awards will be announced on September 8.
