Bath has been ranked the best city in the UK for a student night out… beating Bristol!

The No 1 ranking also put it ahead of party hotspots Manchester and London.

To reveal the best student nightlife cities across the UK, accommodation provider Canvas analysed key factors like drink prices, the number and ratings of nightlife venues, and local safety scores to reveal the ultimate student-friendly night out.

Bath, reckoned the survey, has 98 bars and clubs, compared with 332 in Bristol.

That’s 10 bars for every 10,000 people in Bath – twice as many as Bristol’s five.

Importantly, Bath scored really well for safely walking alone at night – 66.12 vs Bristol’s 38.1.

When the survey compared the price of a pint, there was much in it. At £5.75 a beer in Bath costs 5p more than a brewski in Bristol.

“With 332 bars and clubs to choose from and an impressive average rating of 4.40 stars, Bristol offers everything from underground music venues to quirky harbourside pubs,” said a Canvas numbercrucher.

“Popular nightclubs like Motion and Basement 45 cement its reputation as a top destination for dance music lovers and late-night revellers.

“While the average pint costs £5.70, one of the priciest on the list, Bristol makes up for it with sheer variety and electric atmosphere.

“Whether you’re after craft cocktails or an all-night rave, Bristol delivers a vibrant, eclectic night out.

“Bath ranks as the UK’s top city for nightlife, thanks to its high concentration of bars and clubs, 10 per 10,000 people, and an impressive average rating of 4.45 stars.

“While the total number of venues (98) may seem modest, the per capita access is among the best.

“Despite having an expensive average pint at £5.75, Bath’s strong safety score and lively atmosphere make it a clear winner.”
