Property deal underlines attraction of development land on Swindon’s urban fringes

A key housing project on the northern outskirts of Swindon will now go ahead following a deal brokered by Bruton Knowles.

Up to 350 new homes will be delivered near Abbey Farm, Lady Lane, following approval by planners in 2015.

Brought forward by Bruton Knowles’ Gloucester-based development team, along with Webb Paton surveyors, the site will now be developed by Linden Homes and Redrow Homes

Robert Anthony from Bruton Knowles said: “This was another long and complex case involving some 53 acres of agricultural land. It underlines the opportunities farmers have in achieving best returns from the sale of land near existing residential areas.

“Development land values vary, but urban fringe land with good infrastructure connections makes for competition between developers to buy the land, in the knowledge that the houses built will be sought after by the house purchasers.

“Swindon is a successful and fast-expanding town and the community needs these new homes.”

Bruton Knowles’ development team is active on a number of sites and current projects could deliver more than 4,500 new homes across the south west.

The Abbey Farm site is opposite the popular speedway track and next door to the 1,700 home Tadpole Farm development.
