Plans to build Bristol’s tallest building to be decided next week

Plans to build Bristol’s tallest building on a city centre site vacated by Debenhams when the retailer went into administration in 2021 will be voted on next week.

33 Horsefair Ltd and property agent Savills are seeking planning permission for a development of 500 apartments which will include a 28-storey tower block.

The tower block would become the tallest in the city, knocking the 21-storey Castle Park View off its perch.

Members of Bristol City Council’s development control committee will make a decision on the application next Wednesday (April 24). Approval has already been recommended by the council’s planning officials.

The scheme would include 11,000 sq ft of commercial floorspace at lower floors, public spaces, and more than 500 apartments, including affordable accommodation.

It would also include the reinstatement of a medieval street connecting the Bearpit to Horsefair for the first time since the Debenhams building was erected in the 1950s.
