Brewer appoints local contractor to build new neighbourhood pub
Swindon brewer Arkell’s has appointed Edmont Ltd to build its new multi-million-pound pub at Tadpole Garden Village.
The pub will be the first built by the brewery in almost 20 years. Plans for a hostelry to serve the 1,855-home Crest Nicholson development first revealed in 2018, and the brewery had initially planned to open by the end of 2019.
Foundation works are planned to begin on site in early June, with the official ‘breaking ground’ ceremony scheduled to be on Thursday, June 3 this year.
Edmont Ltd is a well-established Swindon firm, with over 50 years in construction. The two companies have worked together on a number of projects over the years.
Edmont’s managing director, Craig Morton, said: “This will be the fourth new build public house Edmont has undertaken for Arkell’s and we are proud to be involved in creating exciting new spaces for the local community.
“We look forward to working with Arkell’s to make this project a success.”
George Arkell, managing director of Arkell’s, said: “The appointment of Edmont is an important step forward in this project and with the easing of lockdown restrictions this week we are now confident to progress and invest in a new pub for Swindon.
“It has been a long time coming and we are really excited to start the ball rolling on this fantastic pub for the Tadpole neighbourhood.”
