Public’s views sought on UK’s first Renewable Natural Gas facility
Proposals for the UK’s first Renewable Natural Gas facility are being put to the public today (Friday).
Rivan Industries has launched a public consultation on proposals for Little Rose Lane Energy Park, located north of Swindon.
The unique clean energy project would create synthetic fuel by capturing carbon dioxide from the air, splitting water molecules using electrolysis to create hydrogen and dioxygen gasses, and combining the gasses together in a reactor powered by solar energy.
The resulting gas would be fed directly into the UK’s existing energy grid with no need for fuel deliveries.
Rivan is currently testing and developing the technology at the Science and Innovation Park located near Wroughton, to the south of Swindon.
Biotech firm Rivan Industries says it wants to eliminate the 12 gigatonnes of carbon dioxide being emitted by heavy industries every year by creating clean, synthetic fuels from the air.
A public consultation has been launched online at http://www.rivan.com/little-rose-lane and runs until May 1, while a public consultation event will be held on Thursday, April 24 in Highworth.
Rivan says it hopes to submit a planning application by June, with construction starting in spring 2026 if the plans are approved.
