Bristol Light Festival brings Luminarium to the city for the summer
Bristol Light Festival is bringing interactive art installation Luminarium to the city this August, giving a boost to the visitor economy.
Luminarium is billed as a sensory experience which offers visitors “a dazzling maze of winding paths and soaring domes where natural forms and light meld into an inspiring mix of design and engineering.
“Visitors walking through the paths will experience the beauty of light and colour in a whole new way.”
Luminarium has been conceived by Architects of Air, which specialises in inflatable sculptures and immersive art installations.
It is presented by Bristol Light Festival, delivered by Bristol City Centre BID, supported by Arts Council England and delivered as one of the activities under the City Centre and High Streets Recovery and Renewal programme, funded by Bristol City Council and the West of England Combined Authority’s Love our High Street project.
February’s six-day Bristol Light Festival brought £3.4 million of revenue into city centre businesses, according to independent financial and visitor analysis commissioned by the BID.
The first major event to take place in Bristol post-lockdown attracted 170,000 visitors to the city and brought an additional spend of £3.4m into city centre businesses, supporting the post-pandemic business recovery.
According to the visitor report 115,000 of the 170,000 chose to visit the city solely because Bristol Light Festival was taking place.
Of all the attendees, 72 per cent ate or drank out at local bars and restaurants and 13 per cent went shopping.
The Luminarium will be at College Green, Bristol from Thursday, August 4 to Sunday, August 14. It is free to attend, but tickets must be preordered from https://bristollightfestival.org
