Beard Construction receives prestigious President’s Award for 10 consecutive health and safety gold awards
Swindon-headquartered construction firm Beard has received a prestigious President’s Award from RoSPA, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, having been awarded 10 consecutive gold awards for health and safety.
The award recognises the firm’s continued dedication to ensuring staff and stakeholders get home safely at the end of every working day.
Beard is among a select few in the construction sector to not only receive a President’s Award, but for the whole company rather than an individual division or region.
With offices in Swindon, Bristol, Oxford and Guildford, Beard has completed a wide range of construction projects including new build, restoration and refurbishment in a variety of sectors.
In 2022 alone, Beard completed 45 projects spanning everything from car showrooms, GP surgeries and care homes, to primary schools, housing and religious buildings.
Established in 1892, Beard employs more than 300 people across its four regional offices.
Mike Hedges, director at Beard (pictured) said: “Health and safety is a fundamental priority for all organisations, especially those in the construction sector.
“As is such, the safety of all those that work for us or interact with us is paramount at Beard. While a reduction in slips, trips and falls and our overall accident rate in 2022 is more than enough reward for us, we’re delighted to receive the President’s Award from RoSPA. It’s fantastic recognition for our entire team who have worked so hard to achieve 10 consecutive gold health and safety awards.”
Julia Small, achievements director at RoSPA added: “Accidents at work and work-related ill health don’t just have huge financial implications or cause major disruption – they significantly impact an individual’s quality of life.
That’s why good safety performance deserves to be recognised and rewarded.
“We are thrilled that Beard has won a RoSPA Award and would like to congratulate them on showing an unwavering commitment to keeping their employees and customers safe from accidental harm and injury.”
One internationally-recognised award follows another as Beard recently achieved a coveted gold accreditation for staff health and wellbeing from Investors in People (IIP).
The RoSPA awards scheme is the largest occupational health and safety awards programme in the UK. Now into its 67th year, the awards have almost 2,000 entries every year, covering nearly 50 countries and a reach of over seven million employees.
The programme recognises organisations’ commitment to continuous improvement in the prevention of accidents and ill health at work, looking at entrants’ overarching health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.
