Expert opinion: Grow your business with wholeness
I’m often asked to explain what I do, and my response can sometimes surprise people. We so often want to put people into a box, so that we can apply our own stereotype to their role and understand how we ‘should’ interact with them.
For me, it’s easier to show people what I do, rather than try to explain it, which is why I tend to speak about the impact I have, rather than the process.
Asking my clients about life outside of their business, what their aspirations are and what they are creating as a legacy for themselves and their loved ones, helps them re-connect with what’s important to them. In doing so, I have seen my clients grow, step into their power, achieve things they didn’t think possible and have powerful insights about their next steps.
This is because my style of coaching is about the whole person. I believe that ‘better’ business comes from understanding what it is we want to create, what our purpose in this world is, and how what we do for ‘work’ aligns with our vision for the future beyond work.
We experience a large number of stimuli each day that translate into actions or responses, some of which are conscious and some unconscious. Each stimulus is interpreted through the filters in our brains that we have developed over many years. So, if we are not addressing the whole person, subject to so many different interpretations how can we be sure that we are making decisions that serve our businesses and ourselves the best?
Growing your business with wholeness is about bringing the whole person to the office, not living behind a façade or split personality. How often are you trying to suppress what’s going on for you at home – been there perhaps? The fear associated with telling a client that you can’t meet their impossible deadline – you’ve been there, right? Or that the challenge you face is so massive it is asking more of you both physically and emotionally than you have to give – felt that too?
There is, however, an answer to this split personality way of living. Something that will re-integrate the real you with the business you. It’s called living in wholeness – bringing your whole-self to each decision and acting in an authentic, powerful way that doesn’t listen to the games you play, that balances real-life with work-life, that is compassionate, yet vision focussed.
So, do you bring your whole self to work each day, or just a part of you? Would you prefer to make decisions that consider your whole self, or just your business self?
