Swindon’s first TEDx event turns spotlight on local ideas
Swindon’s first TEDx event turned the spotlight on local ideas, creativity and community last week, drawing speakers, civic figures and guests from across the town and beyond for a day built around the theme of Lines of Connection.
Held to a full and engaged audience, the TEDx Railway Village created a warm and reflective atmosphere, with organisers and attendees describing the day as inspiring and, in parts, emotional.
Across 14 talks, speakers explored topics ranging from business, science and ageing to heritage, creativity and social impact, with each contribution adding to a broader story about Swindon’s talent and ambition.
The event welcomed civic leaders including the Mayor of Swindon and the High Sheriff of Wiltshire, alongside local entrepreneurs, creatives and community champions.
Their presence underlined the growing interest in Swindon’s cultural and civic development, as well as the role events like TEDx can play in bringing people together around shared ideas.
Early feedback from the 50-plus attendees has been strongly positive, with praise focused on the quality of the speakers, the thoughtful curation of the programme and the professionalism of the production.
Many also highlighted the atmosphere in the room as one of the event’s greatest strengths, helping to spark conversation and reinforce belief in what Swindon can achieve.
Organisers Rob Jandy and Debbie Bryan said TEDx Railway Village was designed to create space for Swindon’s ideas to be heard and valued, adding that the energy in the room made it feel like the beginning of something bigger.
They said the event had the potential to open the door to new conversations, collaborations and confidence in Swindon’s future.
