A peek behind the scenes at the headquarters of the National Trust in Swindon is among the 5,800 events organised across England as part of Heritage Open Days.
Heelis is an award winning, sustainable office building with ingenious features.
It is billed as a ‘must see’ for anyone with an interest in modern architecture or just to see what’s behind the glass doors.
Tours take place on Friday, September 19. Pre-booking is required.
Another marvel of modern architecture – and like Heelis a part of Swindon’s railway heritage reimagined for the modern era – is the iCAST Creative Hub, part of the Carriage Works.
The Creative Hub is designed to inspire innovation in sustainable technologies and foster collaboration, and there will be a chance to meet the architects who designed it.
Tours take place on Friday and Saturday September 19 and 20.
For fans who like their heritage a bit more heritage-y, Trowbridge Museum is offering an illustrated talk on the history of the town on Saturday, September.
Trowbridge was the foremost centre of woollen cloth production in south-west England in the late 18th and early 19th centuries and the Kennet and Avon canal to the north of Trowbridge played an instrumental part in the town’s development. Its fine architecture reflects these past glories. Pre-booking is required.
There are 64 events being held in Swindon and Wiltshire as part of the 31st Heritage Open Days. The festival runs from September 12 to 21.
