The government has announced it will fund a new road scheme into Swindon’s New Eastern Villages development to the tune of £11.6 million. The new road will enable the construction of 4,150 new homes.

A controversial scheme to tunnel a two-mile section of the heavily-congested A303 near Stonehenge has been approved by the Transport Secretary.

The busy A303 runs within a few hundred metres of the ancient monument. Supporters of the scheme say the two-mile tunnel would relieve congestion and return the landscape to a more natural setting, while detractors claim historic artefacts could be destroyed.

Plans to dual a stretch of road in the Cotswolds will have a positive impact on Swindon – especially when it comes to finder a buyer for the Honda manufacturing site.

That’s the view of Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership, which has pledged  £250,000 for initial work to make the 152-hectare site more attractive to buyers when Honda leaves next year.

Salisbury businesses are being urged to have their say on a scheme to pedestrianise the city centre.

The People Friendly Project will see a number of streets in the city centre prioritised for walkers and cyclists between certain times of the day.

Work on a £17.5 million redesign of Junction 15 of the M4, south of Swindon and north of Marlborough, will begin next month.

Highways England has teamed up with Swindon Borough Council, Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership and developers Persimmon and Redrow to deliver extra lanes and improve local road access from the motorway.

Roads and bridges in Swindon are set to benefit from almost £5m in government funding.

The Department for Transport (DfT) named Swindon Borough Council as one of 32 local authorities, which are set to benefit from £93.4m from the Local Highways Maintenance Challenge Fund.
