Minister confirms central role for Chambers of Commerce in leading business growth
Business secretary Vince Cable has told Wiltshire business leaders that chambers of commerce will play a central role in the recovery of the economy.
Speaking at the Wessex Chambers of Commerce business breakfast last week Dr Cable confirmed the UK’s economic output had increased by 0.8 percent between July and September.
But he said there was much more to be done to rebuild the economy and that the Chambers of Commerce would play a central role alongside the Local Enterprise Partnership in delivering support and funding to local businesses.
Businesses of all sizes and sectors attended the event, including M.J. Church, HSBC, Barclays, Aspire Defence and Center Parcs, with approximately 200 people attending in total.
As secretary of state for Business, Innovation and Skills, Dr Cable took the opportunity to step out of his ‘Westminster bubble’ and visit members of Wiltshire’s business community, which he labelled as an extremely valuable experience.
Dr Cable said that over the next few years, the Government will continue with its measures to devolve power in order to allow more decision making to be taken out of Whitehall and made on a local level.
Wessex Chambers CEO Rob Perks said members would heed the advice of Dr Cable and remain realistic, whilst continuing to help local businesses to grow and make the most of the economic conditions they find themselves in – whatever they may be.
