SsangYong Motors UK opens 16 new franchises in 12 months
The Swindon-based importer of Korean motor brand SsangYong has opened 16 new franchises in the past 12 months.
All but two of the franchises are former sales dealers for Mitsubishi. The Japanese manufacturer ceased importing to the UK last autumn.
Kevin Griffin, managing director at SsangYong Motors UK, said: “This brand has undergone a dramatic transformation over the past few years with the implementation of a new growth strategy and the introduction of new and more exciting products, whilst maintaining a firm focus on the expansion of our dealer network.
“Our dealer portfolio is of paramount importance to our customers. Our focus on filling open points and appointing new, good dealers will help the brand to generate more awareness and provide buyers with even more confidence.”
SsangYong produces a range of SUV, 4×4 and pickup models – all of which are growing sectors in the UK. It anticipates a network of 75 dealers by mid-2022.
Established in 1954, SsangYong is Korea’s oldest vehicle manufacturer and only 4×4 and SUV specialist producer.
There are currently 65 SsangYong dealers covering England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
The latest five dealers to join the SsangYong network are Palmers Hemel Hempstead, Holt SsangYong Derby, Balmer Lawn Southampton, Fields SsangYong in Dunley, and North City Autos in Chingford.
SsangYong Motors UK moved its headquarters from Luton to Europa Business Park in Stratton St Margaret, Swindon in August 2020.
