Audi unveils its new-look flagship saloon

Audi has unveiled its new A8 saloon, with revised infotainment and styling.

After four years, the fourth-generation A8 has been given a facelift, with a new set of teeth in the form of an even larger, more imposing grille than its predecessor.

Audi has also tweaked the front bumper, side skirts, and rear valance.

The German manufacturer has also added its new Digital Matrix LED headlights as an optional extra. The light unit contains million micromirrors, which Audi says can adjust the beam pattern with millimetric precision to help illuminate dark patches in the road.

Audi has also incorporated anti-tailgating technology. Get too close to the Audi in front, and the rear lights will glow brighter, warning you to back off.

Inside, there’s a two-screen infotainment system, with a 10.1-inch screen for media and an 8.6-inch unit for climate controls. This sits alongside the 12.3-inch digital dash.

Rear occupants also get 10.1-inch screens, if they’ve been ticked as an optional extra.

The new A8 is available with four engine options. The 3.0 TDI and the 3.0 TFSI are V6 units, while the 4.0 TFSI in the S8 is a V8 with cylinder on-demand technology. The TFSI e plug-in hybrid model combines the 3.0 TFSI with an electric motor.

For the sportiest performance, drivers will be invited to check out the 563 bhp S8, which will go from 0-62 mph in 3.8 seconds.

UK drivers will be able to order the new A8 from December 2. Prices start at £73,375, with a long wheelbase version from £77,375 and an S8 from £99,650.
