New chairman named for Wiltshire Education, Employment and Skills Board
The group chief executive of Selwood Housing Group, Barry Hughes, has been named as the new chairman of the Wiltshire Education, Employment and Skills Board.
The board was established in January 2014 to enable partners to work together on an increasingly overlapping education, employment and skills agenda.
Since then the Board and its subgroups have developed an inclusive Education, Employment and Skills Strategy inclusive of all ages and client groups to guide the way in which key partners work together to respond to Wiltshire’s economic growth priorities while supporting the development of an inclusive economy.
Barry Hughes has had a varied career working across a number of media organisations before moving into the housing sector.
He joined Selwood Housing as finance director in 2006 from Associated Newspapers where he was the finance director for the Evening Standard and Metro newspapers.
In early 2007 Barry became chief executive of Selwood Housing Group, which consists of Selwood Housing, repairs service Silcoa and training provider The Learning Curve; bringing his commercial experience to lead the organisation through its evolution into an award-winning social enterprise.
He said: “Being named as chair of the Wiltshire Education, Employment and Skills Board is a real honour and a responsibility I take very seriously.
“I’ve always been keen to support development opportunities for the people in our communities and being provided with the opportunity to chair the board will allow me to take a lead role in doing this.
“I’m looking forward to working with learners, educational and training providers and employers to provide the right people, with the right skills, for the right jobs, to drive economic growth in Wiltshire.”
