Chairman hired to point Excalibur in right direction

Excalibur Communications has appointed leading Swindon businesswoman Nicky Allberry as chairman of its mobile, landline and IT solutions business.

Nicky joins CEO James Phipps in the quest to grow Excalibur rapidly into 2014 and beyond by reviewing their business structure, processes, strategies and expansion plans.

The former business banker spent 20 years at Great Wester Enterprise in Swindon – now Business West – and was chief executive until 2005.

She is still chairman of GWE Holdings Limited, one of the two shareholders of Business West.

Nicky is also chairman of Influence, Swindon’s Strategic Economic Partnership and vice chairman of the Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership.

She also sits on the Economy Programme Board and the Employment & Skills Board for Swindon Borough Council, as well as being a board member of the One Swindon Partnership, representing Swindon Business Community.

James met Nicky when they worked together on the Swindon Influence Board. They also sit together on the board of the LEP.

“Having worked closely with Nicky over a number of years, her work ethic, experience and community involvement is the ideal fit for Excalibur. We are very much on the same page in our approach to running a business and I’m looking forward to what the future holds with Nicky on board.”

Nicky said “I’m very much looking forward to joining the Excalibur team, James has created a well respected, reputable brand in Swindon and the surrounding area. I want to help the board move the company further forward to become the leading communications provider in the South-West.”

Excalibur currently holds the highest levels of partnership with partners Vodafone, Microsoft & BlackBerry, and the role will also focus on maximising opportunities for Excalibur with these industry leaders.

As well as the new chairman, Excalibur has employed five graduates through an employment day it held shortly before Christmas at its Swindon offices. The graduates will cover various roles from new business development through to telephone account management and be based in Swindon, Bristol & Cardiff.

Also new to the team is Khalfan Nassoro who will look after new business in the Cardiff area, and the firm is set to open offices in Bristol and Swindon in 2014.
