Accountants branch into fundraising and net thousands for TWIGS
Swindon-based Banks BHG accountants have netted almost £2,650 for a local charity thanks to a year-long series of fundraising events.
Staff at the Stratton company took part in sponsored walks and diets, ran quizzes, held a golf day and even guessed the weight of a baby, all to raise money for TWIGS, the Cheney Manor-based charity which runs a community garden and café to support people with mental health and addiction problems
Banks BHG director Richard Mathews, and marketing and events co-ordinator Claire Hunt, presented the cheque to TWIGS’ services manager Alan Holland.
“We’re very grateful to Banks BHG, it’s a fantastic sum and we’re amazed at how much they raised,” Alan said. “The money will go towards the charity’s staffing costs, which are one of our biggest overheads. We rely on donations like this, so this is a huge boost.”
Over the past four years, Banks BHG has raised in excess of £9,000 for local charities, choosing one each year to support. These have included Prospect Hospice and the children’s cancer charity CALM.
Next year, Banks BHG will support Swindon youth charity Inner Flame, which delivers The Prince’s Trust Team Programme to help combat youth unemployment.
Richard said: “Although our client-base is widespread, our office is in Swindon and we enjoy being able to help local charities in the area.
“We’ve had a great time supporting TWIGS, it’s a fantastic charity and they’ve been very welcoming, inviting us over to the gardens several times. Now we’re looking forward to 2015 and helping to raise funds for an equally good cause, Inner Flame.”
