Video selfie is the key to a career at Pebley Beach
Bosses at Pebley Beach in Swindon are taking an innovative approach to recruitment – by asking applicants for front-line positions to submit a ‘video selfie’ alongside their CV.
Candidates applying for customer-facing roles – whether in the showroom, on the service desk, or even in the workshop – are being asked to make a 60 second video to demonstrate their confidence, professionalism and personality.
“At Pebley Beach, we pride ourselves on our top-notch customer service, and we’re looking for what we call Pebley People,” said managing director Dominic Threlfall. “We want employees who are enthusiastic and personable – and a video selfie helps them prove they’ve got what it takes to join our team.”
“Video is an increasingly important part of the way we do business,” said Dom. “Bring your car in for a service or MOT, and our technicians will film a short video health check, pointing out and explaining any problems or areas of concern.
“Meanwhile, our sales managers can show you around your next new car by video, saving you a trip to the showroom.”
Pebley Beach rarely advertises vacancies, relying instead on its We’ve Found a Great Person philosophy to recruit. “When we find a Pebley Person, we’ll create a role for them, even if there’s no immediate vacancy available,” said Dom.
Among the most recent recruits are 20-year-old service advisor Matt Webb, who has joined Pebley Beach from another Swindon car dealership.
“Everyone here works as a team, and the result is happy, satisfied customers,” said Matt.
Earlier this year Pebley Beach was named Apprenticeship Business of the Year at the 20th annual Wiltshire Business Awards, as well as scooping the top award: Business of the Year.
Plaudits won by its award-winning team members in 2014 include the Brilliant Champion award at the Hyundai Global Sales Executive Competition for sales executive Sean Quirk, the Suzuki Motor Technician of the Year award for mechanic Mark Illsley, and the first accreditation to the Hyundai Business Professional scheme for Helen Russell.
The firm also won a trophy for its aftersales service at the prestigious AM Awards – the Oscars of the motor industry – and was voted Best Garage in the UK at the AutoExpress Car of the Year awards by its customers.
