Thrings ranked number one in legal ‘bible’
Law firm Thrings has been named as a ‘band one’ firm for corporate law, litigation, agriculture and rural affairs, environment, family law and personal injury in the 2014 edition of Chambers UK, a guide to law firms.
Seen as the bible for identifying the best lawyers and firms in the UK across 100 different sectors, it is the most in-depth review of the professional available.
The Chambers band one accolade follows the firm’s Top Tier ranking for agriculture and estates in the recent Legal 500 law directory, published in September.
The corporate law team retained its band one ranking again for 2014. John Davies, who is a corporate partner and head of the Swindon office, was identified as being ‘incredible’ and working determinedly on behalf of his clients.
Cited as significant successes was the team’s work advising the management in a buyout of Excalibur, as well as their work for Watson Petroleum and MAN Truck and Bus UK.
Their knowledge and expertise in acquisitions, divestments and restructures were highlighted as particular strengths.
Also based in the Swindon office, the family and matrimonial law team, headed by Fiona Kellow, received band one ranking. The team has been recognised for its work particularly with high net worth financial disputes and international child abduction.
With strong expertise in brain and serious injury cases, the personal injury team achieved band one ranking, which is headed up in Swindon by Huw Ponting, who, along with Neil Elliott, were highlighted as leaders in their field.
The Swindon real estate team was also recognised for its knowledge on commercial development matters, leisure, financial institutions and pension property fund investment and residential.
Simon Holdsworth, managing partner, said: “Chambers is one of the most prestigious legal directories in the UK, as well as across the globe.
“For so many of our talented lawyers to feature in this year’s edition, as well as having the environment team recognised for the first time, is excellent news and well-deserved recognition of the talent, skill and dedication of our colleagues.”
