Free business training for would-be entrepreneurs coming to Swindon and Wiltshire

A new concept in business training is coming to Swindon and Wiltshire later this month. PopUp Business School helps people turn doing what they love into a business.

The ten day school offers emerging entrepreneurs tried-and-tested tips and tricks for establishing a business, with a wide range of sessions including:

  • Finding and pitching ideas
  • Marketing, selling and pricing
  • The web and social media
  • Law
  • Negotiating and networking
  • Money

A different topic is tackled each day. Delegates can attend as many, or as few, of the days as they like.

The ethos of the PopUp Business School is that people who want to start a business do not need a business plan or investment capital. Their enthusiasm will help them succeed.

“Our approach is the polar opposite of traditional approaches to starting a business. We don’t believe in business plans and we definitely don’t believe in loans or grants because this puts more people off than it helps.

“We’ll show you how to start without spending any money, make a great website for free, and get you to your first sale,” said founder Alan Donegan.

PopUp Business School says thirty percent of people who attend their courses launch a business, and 27 percent have made sales. So far, around 1,000 people have signed up to the course as it tours the UK.

The courses are supported by Wilshire Council and Swindon Borough Council through the £1.2m EU-funded SME Growth project.

Baroness Scott of Bybrook, OBE, leader of Wiltshire Council, said of the PopUp Business School: “This is a brilliant opportunity for the job creators of tomorrow to get their business off to a flying start.

“We are delighted to support these enterprising courses.”

The PopUp Business School in Wiltshire will be at Emery Gate Shopping Centre in Chippenham from April 16 to 27 and at Brunel Shopping Centre, Swindon from April 30 to May 11. Sessions run from 10am until 3pm daily.
