Minister for universities praises Good Energy’s green graduate jobs scheme
Member of Parliament for Chippenham and minister of state for higher and further education Michelle Donelan praised the green graduate jobs scheme of renewable energy company Good Energy during a visit to the firm’s Chippenham HQ last week.
The MP met with Good Energy’s CEO and Nigel Pocklington and people and customer operations director Françoise Woodward to discuss the current energy market, the recent COP26 climate conference, and the business’ success in recruiting graduates.
“It was a pleasure to meet some inspiring young graduates succeeding in green jobs at Good Energy right here in Chippenham,” said the minister.
“As a business at the forefront of the UK’s efforts to cut carbon, Good Energy’s not only helping to combat climate change, it’s offering young people diverse, challenging and truly meaningful work.”
Rhiannon Barriball was among the graduates who spoke to the MP. She joined Good Energy in July 2020 after completing a degree in Geography at Swansea University and Masters in Sustainability from the University of Southampton.
Starting as a clean energy specialist she soon moved on to join the communications team, putting her excellent writing skills and specialist sustainability knowledge into practice.
Rhiannon said: “I’ve always cared about nature and protecting the planet, and wanted to work for a business that has the same values and same goals as I do.
“I wouldn’t feel happy working for a company that goes against sustainability and is far from green, and nowadays it’s quite hard to trust a lot of companies.
“In order to be successful, you need to be green, sustainable and ethical.
“Working for Good Energy I can put my skills to good use and have lots of opportunities to develop.”
