Meet the Buyer

Event gives 300 SMEs the chance to pitch to big players

Three hundred would-be suppliers took the opportunity to pitch to Wiltshire’s biggest spenders at a Meet the Buyer event last week.

The Wessex Chambers event gave smaller businesses the chance to pitch their goods and services to big players including Aspire Defence, Babcock International, Balfour Beatty, Bath University, Cooper Tires, Swindon College, Wincanton, MOD Abbeywood, Smiths News, and Wiltshire and Swindon Borough Councils.

Mark Barnett, a board member of event sponsor Swindon & Wiltshire LEP opened the event and highlighted the need for the county’s larger companies to look locally for suppliers.

Stefan Barbaruk,  Wessex Chambers manager and organiser of the event said: “We were delighted with the response we had from local businesses and that everyone who responded  was seen.

“The whole idea of this initiative was to support our own local economy by introducing and encouraging some of our larger businesses to use  local suppliers.”

The event was held at Wiltshire Hotel & Golf Club, Wootton Bassett  on Friday (October 25).
