BMX-ers wheelie pleased with £10,000 Hills grant
Youngsters in Bromham, near Devizes, are wheelie pleased after their project to build a BMX bike track in their village attracted a vital £10,000 funding grant from The Hills Group.
The Marlborough-based firm made the funding grant available through the Landfill Communities Fund, which is administered for Hills by Community First, the Rural Community Council for Wiltshire.
The project was started by youngsters in Bromham who wanted access to more challenging and exciting outdoor activities that were appropriate to their age and lifestyle.
They took their ideas to the parish council, which supported their ideas and set about raising the £25,000 needed.
Mike Hill, chief executive of The Hills Group, said: “It is important for children and young people to have access to great outdoor areas and their enthusiasm for this project has been very evident. We are pleased to be able to provide the funding needed to help bring their project to life.”
In addition to £3,340 of local community fundraising, the Area Board has contributed £5,000 and together with this grant from The Hills Group the project is confirmed to definitely go ahead.
Project co-ordinator Catherine Read, said: “We are absolutely thrilled by the news. This is a significant amount of the project costs and means that we are three quarters of the way to achieving the total funding.”
Construction should begin early this year.
