Fundraising events ranging from a weekly bake-off to sponsored runs has netted nearly £3,000 for a Swindon charity supporting families with children suffering from cancer.
The team at Banks, Chartered Accountants, selected CALM – Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Movement – as their charity for 2013, and presented chairman Richard Crowley and secretary Lucy Young with a cheque for £2,896.84.
Staff at Stratton-based Banks held a weekly bake-off, director Neil Elsden ran two half-marathons, a team of walkers tackled a hike, and several teams took part in a quiz, among other fundraising events.
“We need about £50,000 every year to keep going, so donations like this are really fantastic and we’re very grateful to the team at Banks,” said Richard. “A major expenses is providing holidays for families at the caravans we have, which enable them to spend quality time together and help to create happy memories.”
Neil said everyone had enjoyed the fundraising, and the weekly bake-off – where staff took turns to bring in cakes to sell – had been a particular hit. “For a team of just over 20 here at Banks, to raise so much is a great achievement,” he said.
Over the last three years, Banks has raised almost £6,500 for local charities. During 2014, the company will be fundraising for TWIGS – Therapeutic Work in Gardening Swindon, which helps support people with mental health problems, with a focus on a community garden.
