If you’re the frontman of an award-winning alternative rock band from Northern Ireland with 18 Top 40 singles and two platinum albums to your name, where do you go to launch your new solo album? The answer, it seems, is a record shop in Marlborough.
As vocalist and guitarist of Ash, Tim Wheeler penned a string of hits throughout the 90s including Kung Fu, Girl From Mars, Angel Interceptor and Oh Yeah, all of which could be heard on the Number 1 platinum selling album 1977.
In 2001 he won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Pop Song for Shining Light, from the band’s other platinum album, Free All Angels.
Now he’s launching his first solo album, Lost Domain. And on the day it’s released – Monday, November 10 – he’ll play an intimate gig at the Azuza bar in Marlborough, courtesy of the neighbouring Sound Knowledge record store.
Wheeler plays all of the instruments on the album, barring guest appearances from Andy Burrows (Razorlight, We Are Scientists) and members of Alberta Cross and Neon Indian.
Roger Mortimer of Sound Knowledge said: “This is an unmissable chance to catch a real star in an intimate setting for free.
“All we ask is that if you’re going to buy a copy of the album you do so from us on the night – the day of the album’s release – with, of course, the added bonus of getting it signed by the artist.
“Tim is donating a portion of the proceeds from the album to the Alzheimer’s Society.”
