Accountants call on businesses to test their grey matter for charity
Accountants are counting on the support of Swindon businesses to make a charity quiz they are running next month a success.
The event, organised by Banks, Chartered Accountants, will be staged on May 14 at the Swindon Town’s County Ground to raise funds for the local TWIGS charity.
TWIGS supports people with mental health problems, with a focus on a community garden.
Entry is £5 per head for teams of four and 20 teams have already registered to take part, mainly comprising local businesses and Banks’ associates.
TWIGS is Banks’ charity for 2014. In previous years, charities they’ve supported have included Prospect and CALM (Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Movement) and in total they have raised almost £6,500.
“We always support a local charity so we can give something back to the community,” said Banks director Richard Mathews. “The team really pull together for the fundraising. This is our first big event of the year, but we’ve also had guess-the-weight and delivery date of a member of staff’s baby, as well as a sponsored weight loss.”
Other events planned for the year include a charity walk, golf day and race night, as well as a repeat of last year’s very successful Banks Bake-Off. The team are also volunteering for some gardening at TWIGS.
