Business Golf Network launches its third group in Thornbury

A golf-themed business networking group which set up in Bristol in 2021 has launched its third group in Thornbury.

Business owners from across Bristol and South Gloucestershire visited Thornbury Golf and Lodge last week for the inaugural event of the latest Business Golf Network (BGN) group.

A breakfast networking session was followed by a driving range session and time out on the course, guided and coached by BGN founder and PGA golf pro Ben Hortop.

“We know how useful golf can be as a networking aid for developing business,” said Ben. “The chance to meet new people, united by some friendly competition, all while enjoying some exercise in the fresh air… it’s the ideal way to do it.

“What we’re really keen to do at BGN is encourage new and improving golfers to join us, maybe to try it out for the first time or to better their games and learn new techniques.

“We don’t want this to be exclusive, or too formal – just a nice, relaxed atmosphere in which we can all learn from each other about golf and business, share experiences and hopefully grow our businesses at the same time.”

BGN started at the Bristol Golf Club in Almondsbury in 2021, set up by Ben with support from co-founders Chris Holloway, Ian Stuart and Former DP World Tour Volvo PGA Champion Scott Drummond.

Since then, it has launched 2 groups at The Bristol Golf Club on alternating Wednesdays and Thursdays, with the third launched today at Thornbury Golf & Lodge.

“We’re delighted with how the groups are going so far,” said Ben, “and it was the right time to open at a new venue. I’m grateful to the club for hosting us and we’re looking forward to a mutually beneficial relationship over the coming months and years.

“We have ambitious plans for our own business and we’re going to be looking to open up more groups in Bristol and beyond in the future.”

The launch event was attended by Caroline Williams, general manager at Thornbury Golf and Lodge, as well as keynote speaker Simon Buck, an award-winning business coach with growth experts Chalkhill Blue.

“We’re really happy to host BGN,” said Caroline. “Business owners are a key market for us and it’s always a pleasure to welcome more people to the club to discover the place and find out more about what we do.

“We’ve got options here for all levels of golfing ability so the concept of BGN is going to work here nicely. We’re excited to see how the group develops.”
