Swindon sales exec is among world’s best
A Swindon sales executive has been named one of the top salesmen in the world by motor manufacturer Hyundai.
Sean Quirk, a sales executive at motor dealer Pebley Beach in Swindon, travelled to Korea to go head to head against the top two sales consultants from each country that Hyundai sells in.
He left with the accolade of Brilliant Champion – a title awarded to only 30 of the 386 competitors – after being tested on his brand knowledge, including the most obscure country-specific facts and intricate facts about Hyundai factories and plants across the world.
Contestants were also set a sales scenario and were asked to provide a recommendation for a suitable vehicle.
Sean’s scenario was a young family of five who liked camping and were looking for a new car. Sean recommended the Hyundai Santa Fe as it has seven seats plus plenty of boot space for all of their equipment.
Sean’s sales technique was then tested to ensure that he understood and delivered the Hyundai approach, as well as his knowledge of the car and its features, such as sat nav, flexible seating combinations and four-wheel drive capability.
Sean said: “I was definitely at an advantage compared to the others there thanks to the focus on training and continual improvement at Pebley Beach.
“We help each other out and suggest ways that we all can improve. There’s a great relaxed, but focused, approach to sales here too which in a way took some of the pressure off during the competition.
“A lot of the other contestants were so nervous it affected their performance, but I just approached it like I would any other customer in the showroom.
“The overall sales process is similar across the world – there may be some cultural differences or quirks, but on the whole how successful you are really depends on the sort of person you are.
“The competition was a great experience and seeing behind the scenes in the factory and steel mill was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
“I didn’t expect to bring home a medal but now it takes pride of place in the Pebley showroom. Even though I was hesitant at first, I’d do it all again without a doubt – if only to win the title of overall world champion!”
